REC Meeting

Mark Rauchenstein presented the REC meeting report prepared by Mary F.  It was reviewed that the REC stands for Regional Executive Committee.  It is the Unions representatives from the chapters around the state and the executive board of directors.  This group reviews the budget and approves the next years budget.  Speaking at the REC meeting this week was Joe McGee talking about how government employees are being cited as getting an unfair advantage in wages and benefits.  The real issue is not that government employees are getting more than they should; it is that private employers are taking away more from employee than they should and we should note that we should all be encouraging private employees to be brought up to our level, not that public employees should make less.  It is our right and responsibility to watch for articles criticizing public employees and their benefits, respond in editorials about what we have is fair, and that other employers should be providing the like.  We need to beat the drum, what is fair should be available to all.

Treasurer’s Report

Mark presented the Treasurers report prepared by Robyn for all income and expenses in the chapter for 2006.

Central Labor Council

Mark reported as representative to the Clark, Skamania, and West Klickitat County Central Labor Council.  It was discussed as to what the labor council is and who is involved in it.  The actions happening in the council include preparing future year budgets and organizing of several committees, actions and reports of other unions.

The Letter Carrier Union is preparing to do their annual food drive to support the local food bank.  The sponsor that purchases their donation bags backed out this year and they have requested help from the other local unions to assist them in the cost.  It was M/S/Carried for our chapter to make a $100. donation to the Letter Carriers Union for the purchase of their food collection bags.
