Negotiations Update
July 8, 2010

The Union coalition and the Employer concluded two days of mediation on July 7th and 8th, with contract issues still unresolved. The Union and Employer are looking for mediation dates in August.

The items still remaining unresolved are primarily economic issues, which would result in takeaways from the level of compensation and benefits currently offered to County employees.

The core issues unresolved are:

HEALTHCARE: The Counties current healthcare proposal would result in an employee premium contribution and overturn the historical work accomplished by the Healthcare Committee.

WAGES: In addition to the agreed to 2-year COLA wage freeze, the County has proposed to eliminate all Step Increases for 2010.

PARKING: The County proposed an increase to the parking cap currently in place for County employees.

SICK LEAVE: The County is proposing to eliminate the option for employees to use flex time rather than sick leave currently in the agreement.

The Union Coalition is hoping the PERC mediation process will help the parties resolve these issues in dispute.

IFPTE Local 17 and the Coalition partners thank the members for their ongoing support during these difficult negotiations and will provide additional updates as the process continues.
