News

Jan. 07- City of Tacoma members (in Supervisors' and Technical units) ratified a 1 year Contract on January 26th 2007. The process for the City's approval is as follows:

Labor Relations will request a fiscal impact statement from the Budget Office.  This usually takes about two weeks.  After receiving the impact statement this contract must first go to the Utility Board for approval and recommendation to the Council.  The first Utility Board meeting after receiving the impact memo from OMBA will probably be Wednesday, February 28. After Board approval, it will go to Council the next Tuesday session, or the first Tuesday in March. If these timelines change, this site will be updated.

General Information

Union Membership Making Home Ownership Possible

The AFL-CIO’s Homeownership Opportunity Initiative is a program offering union members attractive mortgage packages, which include:
- Interest rate reductions of 1/2 to 1 percent during the first 60 months of the loan.
- Closing cost savings total about $1,200 on a typical $150,000 mortgage
- Buyers get reduced rates for mortgage
- With no income limits, more dual-income families qualify

For more information contact Dianne Wasson

For an example on how this program can help save you money, check out the comparison of closing cost savings between a standard conventional loan and Hometown's home loan program.
